Model & serial verification
For AirPods: the serial number on the inside of the case lid tells the team the exact generation (AirPods Pro 2 vs Pro 3 look nearly identical). For headphones, the serial confirms genuine Sony, Bose, or Beats rather than counterfeit. Required for resale.
Battery life & charge cycles
Both earbuds and the case have batteries. The team tests how long the pair holds a charge in a quick playback session. Old AirPods with batteries that die in 30 minutes get priced for it but still buy. Replacement batteries are a known issue Apple charges for.
Audio, ANC & controls
Both earbuds or each speaker driver tested for audio in both channels. Active Noise Cancellation engaged and confirmed working on supported models. Touch controls or stem squeeze response checked. Each headphone cup tested for balance.
Pairing & account sign-out

Unpair from your Apple ID
For AirPods: open Find My on iPhone, tap your AirPods, scroll down, and tap Remove This Device. This clears Activation Lock so the next owner can pair them. Without this step, AirPods stay tied to your account.

Factory reset the pair
AirPods: put both buds in the case, hold the back button for 15 seconds until the LED flashes amber then white. Sony, Bose, Beats, and Galaxy Buds each have their own reset procedure documented in the companion app.

Bring the case, cable & tips
Charging case for AirPods (the case has its own serial number and value). USB-C or Lightning cable for headphones. Original ear tips if you have them. Original box helps the offer but isn't required.

The team buys turntables from Pro-Ject, Rega, and Audio-Technica, hi-fi speakers from KEF, Klipsch, Polk, B&W, plus receivers and integrated amps from Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, and McIntosh. Bring the gear by during business hours for an offer.
Do you take AirPods with cracked cases or other damage?
Yes, with caveats. AirPods with scuffed or cracked cases, scratched bodies, or one missing bud get a reduced quote but still buy. AirPods that won't charge at all, that have water damage, or that have battery issues so severe they won't power on get a lower offer or sometimes can't be bought. Bring them in and the team will let you know.
Will you buy AirPods with Find My Activation Lock still on?
No. AirPods need to be removed from your Apple ID via Find My before the team can buy them. The case and the buds are both tied to your iCloud account; without removing them, the next owner can't pair the pair. The team can walk you through it at the counter if you have your Apple ID password.
How long does the appraisal take?
Usually 10 minutes for AirPods or a single headphone pair. The team verifies the serial, tests audio in both channels, confirms battery hold for a quick session, checks ANC if applicable, and verifies Find My is off. Hi-fi and turntable appraisals take longer because each component is tested separately.
